Evaluating the cleanliness of a surface or liquid using bacterial plate cultures often takes too long, especially when there is a need for immediate results. Now there is another option, by using a Sanitation Monitoring System such as the AccuPoint2 to provide fast, objective and measurable results, users now have the ability to evaluate specific cleaning efforts in real time.
Designed originally for evaluating the cleanliness of surfaces and liquids in the food processing industry, the AccuPoint2 Sanitation Monitoring System uses a rugged, handheld unit to measure Adenosines Triphosphate (ATP) collected from a surface or liquid sample using specially designed samplers.
All living cells (including fungi and mold) contain ATP whether live or dead and as bacteria, feces, food and other organic material come into contact with surfaces, they also leave ATP behind. In addition, any organic residue left on a surface after an insufficient cleaning effort can provide micro-organisms with the nutrients required for new growth. The AccuPoint2 system therefore not only checks for the presence of organisms by measuring ATP, but also determines whether conditions are present that would allow additional microbial growth. ATP can therefore be used to gauge the cleanliness of a surface or water sample.
The AccuPoint2 unit measures the amount of sampled ATP using a chemiluminescent reaction. The amount of light emitted in this reaction is proportional to the amount of ATP detected in the sample. The results are displayed on the LCD display in the relative light units (RLU) and are assigned as a pass, marginal or fail grade based on the unit’s customizable, pre-established thresholds. Results stored on the unit can then be downloaded to a PC for easy data tracking and further analysis using the AccuPoint2’s intuitive Data Management Software.
